One Chart Wednesday: “I’ll Do It My Damned Self”

Business is a team sport. Except now your teammates are robots.

I’m @ArtParmann, and this is Rounders to Founders. Where I look for different business threads to pull on, and share the interesting ones with you.

Today is One Chart Wednesday. Where I find a single chart to steer me in the right direction. Because it’s easier to ride a wave than tread water. And good luck swimming against the current.

I’ve always considered myself an idea man. The only problem? Ideas are basically worthless. To show you exactly what I mean I’ll give you one of the best ideas imaginable. Right now. Absolutely free.

Seriously this is like a trillion dollar, world-saving, nobel-fucking-peace-prize banger of an idea.

Here it is: Cure cancer.

See what I mean?

It turns out the execution matters more than the idea. And I don’t know shit about doctoring or drugs. (Ok, maybe a little bit about drugs…)

That’s an extreme example, but you get it. Big ideas need big execution. And the main obstacle here is barrier to entry. The internet’s been a huge help in unlocking and lowering those barriers to entry.

Here’s a good example:

We all know what happened in 2003. Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP Main Event and created the poker boom. Right?

Wrong. PokerStars did.

Learning poker before the internet required money. Lots of it. Think about the logistics of spreading a $0.01/$0.02 game in a casino. Yeah right.

In walks the internet and online poker. Creating a massive opportunity for young, smart, college-age (broke) kids to learn. Basically for free. And the truly dedicated made piles of money because of it.

Now here’s another chart. (I know…it’s one chart Wednesday. Sue me.)

The search term “Solopreneur” is blowing up. Which just means running a business with no employees. Pretty much what I’ve been doing since 2005 as a professional poker player.

But there’s a new unlock that is lowering the barrier to entry yet again. AI Coding Agents. You can have a brilliant idea, create a website, and see if customers want your thing. All in a single day.

The people who will win during the AI boom aren’t the computer science majors who spent the better part of their 20’s learning to code. It’s going to be the combination of good idea + writing talent. If you’re able to clearly convey your message to the AI agent that will work on your behalf, then you’re already 10 steps ahead of someone who just knows how to code. Because in order to write clearly, you need to think clearly.

Sure there’s going to be some trial and error. But it’s not learning an entire new language. It’s just using clear writing to distill your thoughts for a computer to make your vision a reality.

Think I’m crazy? Here’s Sam Altman saying that the tools now exist for a solopreneur to build a billion dollar company.

Hard to not be inspired to build something after listening to that. So that’s what I’m trying to do. Find problems worth solving. And then solve them with this new-fangled technology.

If you want to start building with a coding agent, I recommend Replit to get your feet wet. Full disclosure this is an affiliate link that will get us both $10 in free Replit credits.

Now go build something cool.

Look, mom! I built this chip-stack. And all I used was an AI Coding agent.

How'd I do?
